Catherine McHale

biography 1 of 3

Captivated by the visual images of the Southern California urban landscape, Catherine McHale strives to capture and record places that exist as small oases, lost within the far-reaching megalopolis of Los Angeles. Inspired by the rich and diverse architectural landscape, Catherine seeks to interpret the colors, patterns and textures that come together in this area.

Particularly enamored with the old Spanish inspired neighborhoods of the 1920’s, Catherine tries to capture the mysterious feeling of glamour and romance evoked by these old neighborhoods. Rather than literally depicting exactly what she sees, Catherine interprets the views to create her own personal vision, choosing to play the organic and sculptural forms of the landscape and gardens against the strong geometric forms of the architecture.
